Have you read things like “autistic symphony” or “autism out loud”?
These people take a developmental rather than deficit perspective.
The core problem with this neoteny business is our not developing according to the expected timescales. If we don’t learn to talk at the right time we are branded defective for life. If we do talk but don’t process social cues we are “high functioning” but not someone people enjoy spending time with.
And these things cannot be forcibly learned, they must develop according to their own timescales. No amount of behaviourist therapy will make it happen on cue, all it will do is serve to traumatise the child.
